The country of cocoa continues its ambitious program of structural transformation. Indeed, the construction of 2 new airports is planned in San-Pedro and Bondoukou in the National Development Plan (PND) 2026-2030. The San-Pedro project concerns a large-scale international airport, capable of accommodating all types of medium and long-haul aircraft, with a passenger terminal and a cargo terminal. The estimated cost of the San-Pedro project alone reaches 1,000 billion FCFA, demonstrating the scale of the investment made. These infrastructures are part of a broader strategy. The PND 2026-2030, with an overall envelope of more than 114,000 billion FCFA, makes airport development one of its priority axes. The plan aims for average growth of 7.2% and aims to raise Côte d'Ivoire to the rank of upper middle-income countries by 2030.

In San-Pedro, the 2nd largest cocoa port in the world, an international airport would consolidate the city's status as a regional economic hub. The project also provides for the development of an aerocity over 17,000 hectares, integrating hotel, industrial, residential and commercial complexes. In Bondoukou, the creation of an aerodrome will meet the connectivity needs of a border region with still underexploited tourist and commercial potential.

In short, these projects confirm Abidjan's desire to build a balanced airport network, capable of distributing growth flows throughout the national territory.
