Electronic identification of livestock: the Ministry and Vet'Tronic seal an agreement

The Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Sidi Tiémoko Touré, signed this Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the ministerial office of Abidjan-Plateau, a partnership agreement with the company Vet'Tronic, represented by its President and CEO, Dr. Walid Ammar. This agreement extends and expands a first protocol concluded between the two parties on September 29, 2025, which laid the foundations for a pilot phase for the identification of livestock and companion animals. Vet'Tronic, a French company specializing in electronic animal identification using electronic chips, is now supporting the Ministry in scaling up the system to a national scale. According to the Ministry, this reform, already launched on an experimental basis in Odienné in July 2024, should make it possible to assign each animal a unique number and a permanent identification document, recorded in a centralized database. The system should also facilitate the fight against livestock theft, strengthen consumer confidence and meet the traceability requirements of export markets. The agreement signed this Wednesday marks a further step in the Ministry's strategy aimed at self-sufficiency and modernization of the livestock sector in Côte d'Ivoire.
